Gobble gobble

So here it is Thanksgiving morning. I woke up at 5:15 and I'm goofing on the computer, checking out ring tones.
Just taking a minute to think of all the things I should be thankful for: A beautiful hardworking wife who is also a stay at home mother, a 10 year old boy who still likes to do things with Dad, and a 1 year old boy just getting started. Christmas at my brother-in-law's house, with tons of people and never any arguments or problems. Good health (although I am still a little too heavy) and an addiction to ice cream (currently Dreyer's). My wife's family through thick and thin. A job that I like, working with nice people. That my family defines ourselves by who we are, not what we have. That my 10 year old likes to go visit his old next door neighbor in the assisted living center. A nice meal out means it's the family together, not where we go. The only vacations are in Mexico, visiting family. That my wife's family likes when we visit.
Back to the ring tones!

Back to life as we know it

There. Deep breath. Back to normal. Today was another great day. Was able to go for a walk with the family, see an old friend I hadn't seen for 8 months, do the spelling pre-test with my son, and just in general be centered around the family. Much more healthful than thinking about politics or anything else over which I have no direct control.

Also, one of my jobs at night is to get my little fella ready for bed. When I say "bath" he runs towards the stairs and away we go. Then he gets to take a bath with his big brother, and it's bottle and bed time. I always lay down with him in our bed while he drinks his nighttime bottle and then give him a massage and it's into the crib without a whimper. That also allows my wife to have a good solid half hour of relaxation, equally important.

Not looking good...

Arrrrgh. It looks like the democrats are taking power again. 12 long years of built up resentment at the productive members of society - what will they try to take from me? I am considered a "paleo-conservative" and in Marin that is really an endangered species. This sucks big time. It will be painful listening to Nancy Pelosi shriek in her shrill way about how "we have to take it away from them" and commentators not being honest enough to call it for what it is - a confiscation of wealth unseen since Stalin collectivized the farms in the 30's.

That's why I listen to sports talk radio now. My blood pressure gets too high.
